Vocabulary test to be Friday September 13, 2013. Students will learn and understand the vocabulary of art which includes the elements and principles. They will demonstrate their knowledge through a vocabulary test and application project. The Project will include creating a hand with designs that incorporate the elements and principles of line, shape, texture, color, space, value, form, movement, emphasis, rhythm, pattern, balance, unity, and contrast.

Cave painting inspired relief art
Student learn about early paleolithic and neolithic art forms that they will use as inspiration for their own relief paintings. As a class, we discuss the use of symbolism in early art and compare it to art now. Students will demonstrate their knowledge and painting techniques while creating a canvas relief of an animal they feel symbolically represents them. The elements and principles looked closely at in this unit include texture, balance, color, and rhythm.

Unit 3- Greek and Egyptian
In this unit, we discover the advancements of Egyptian and greek cultures through architecture, city plans, and functional ceramics. Students compared and contrasted the details and progression of art from the cave painting eras to this time period. Student will create a coil pot with incising relating to their life as egyptian and greek pottery often portrayed stories, myths, and every day activities. The elements and principles we will look at are form, pattern, movement, and shape.

Romanesque Manuscripts
Communicating through the use of storytelling is an age old practice. In this unit, students will combine detailed drawings with designs to create illuminated manuscripts which communicate a fable, story, or belief. They must think about the composition as a whole unit of comunication. Students look at variety, unity, balance, and contrast.

Renaissance
Printmaking and artist research will encompass the unit of the Renaissance. Students will research and present about a famous artist from this time period as there are far to many for me to attempt to go through. Then students will apply the technique of printmaking that began to excel and expand during this period.

Impressionism
Students will create a landscape that depicts light and movement through color and brush stroke. Students study a wide range of artists and methods of creating unity through the use of paint. Color mixing, pointillism, dry brush, and atmospheric perspective are vocabulary words introduced in the unit. A final landscape of the students choice will be created in the impressionism style.

Kandinsky Abstract
The golden triangle, geometric images, art from music, and the use of movement are all things students will learn about as they explore the work of Kandinsky. Students will then create an abstract work of art utilizing the compositional technique of the golden triangle to show movement.

Pop Culture "Selfie"
Students will learn about "Pop Art" culture and the use of color schemes and color relationships to add dramatic effects and contrast to art.. Using a "selfie", student will create a very large portrait using the pop art style of painting. Students will select a color scheme to demonstrate through the painting then use sharpie and black ink to add designs and details.
