Elementary Art
The first grade through 5th grade curriculum is about building on prior knowledge and ability. We begin with the elements of line, shape, color, and texture in first grade and end with the elements and principles of design in fifth. Students learn about a wide variety of artists, styles, and techniques in their primary art journey while making connections with there life experiences acquired outside the classroom.
7th Grade Art
Student will examine, analyze, and understand the elements and principles of design, which include color, line, shape, value, form, texture, space, repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast, and balance. Student will be able to analyze, compare and contrast, and identify different art ideas, genres, and styles through out modern and historical art. Students will identify and create art from personal, historical, cultural, and social influence and understand the effect these elements have on the art world. Students will create an artist statement for their artwork and discuss their creative choices with peers while revising their artwork through out the creative process. They will demonstrate understanding of audience and occasion in art and create art that expresses said ideas. They will create an artistic intent based on their artist’s statement. They will present their artwork and process to the class and the artwork to the community through an art show. Students will create a weekly sketch book. Elements and principles grid, one-point perspective, advertising, and Papier Mache sculpture will aid in these concepts.
8th Grade Art
Student will examine, analyze, and understand the elements and principles of design, which include color, line, shape, value, form, texture, space, repetition, pattern, emphasis, contrast, and balance. Student will be able to analyze, compare and contrast, and identify different art themes through out history such as the switch from Christianity to Greek and roman mythology. Students will identify and create art from personal, historical, cultural, and social influence and understand the effect these elements have on the art world. Students will create an artist statement for their artwork and discuss their creative choices with peers while revising their artwork through out the creative process. They will present their artwork and process to the class and the community through an art show. Students will create a weekly sketchbook, Altered book, Native American Totem, create political, social, and personal samples of art.
Intro to Art
Intro to Art develops students’ perceptual, creative, technical, and problem solving skills while using a variety of materials and contexts as they relate to our visual culture. Students will engage in experiences that encompass art appreciation, art criticism, aesthetics, and productions of original and traditional art works. The course takes students on a journey through art history from the Paleolithic Period to current art. Students learn to observe the details that make up the world they live in and to use those skills to create. Throughout the course, students make jewelry, paintings, pottery, and many other exciting art projects.
Sculpture
This class is designed for students who like to learn hands on and don’t mind getting dirt under their fingernails. In this class we explore creative construction in three dimensions with a variety of materials; otherwise know as Sculptures. Using natural and architectural objects for inspiration, we will examine and manipulate form, space, and expressive content to develop a deeper understanding of sculptural art and its impact on the space we live in. Students will engage in experiences that encompass art history, art appreciation, art criticism, aesthetics, and production of sculpture that relate to their lives. Student will carve, mold, hand build, and objects into beautiful and interesting works.
2-D Drawing and Painting
This class is designed for students who like to learn about the illusions created with drawing and paintings. In this class we explore creative drawing and painting techniques; otherwise know as dimensional art. Using natural, personal, and historical works for inspiration, we will examine and manipulate form, space, and expressive content to develop a deeper understanding of art and its impact on the space we live in. Students will engage in experiences that encompass art history, art appreciation, art criticism, aesthetics, and production of paintings, drawings, and mosaics that relate to their lives.
Ceramics
This class is my favorite to teach and is set up to explore clay all trimester. Students will discover the techniques of wheel throwing, hand biulding, casting, carving, and decorating all things clay. Students will utilize art history, modern art, our world, and personal influences to explore the functional and design aspects of creating for purpose.
Creative Based Learning (Pinterest 101)
This art class explores the regenerative and mindfulness that comes from creating. I couple this classes projects with guest speakers from the community to promote "side hustles" to give students an idea of how to make money off of the things they love to do. The first half of the course we explore cake decorating, circuit design, painting, essential oil chapsticks and rollers, clothing design, sewing, crochet, and other mini projects. The second half students choose something they would enjoy learning more about and creating with more deeply and develop their own. final projects.
